BIODIVERSITY WALKS (*Also available for Kindergarten to Tertiary)
Nothing beats going out into nature and observing marine animals in their habitat! Your students will be able to walk the Intertidal regions in Singapore, and learn about the vast biodiversity that our shores have! They will have a glimpse of what it would be like for a marine ecologist for a day! (This programme is dated according to tidal timings).

Places of biodiversity walks -

Changi sandy shore (Intertidal walk)

Join us for a hands-on interactive experience with the marine intertidal animals of the Changi sandy shore! With focus on Primary school science topics of classifications, biodiversity, food webs, adaptations and interaction with environment, students will learn about about hermit crabs, sea cucumbers, swimmer crabs, sand dollars and many other amazing animals, and how they are adapted to survive the harsh intertidal environment and make the sandy shore their home!

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserves (Mangrove walk)

Bring your students to the Mangrove forest of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserves, where they will get up close to the biodiversity of the animals and plants of the Mangrove ecosystem! Observe and learn about how these Mangrove trees are well adapted in the salty water conditions and play a huge importance in the ecosystem. Students will also get to see animals such as mudskippers, monitor lizards, tree climbing crabs, kingfishers, crocodiles and many more mangrove inhabitants!

Coney Island (Nature / Intertidal Walk)

Do you know what Singapore is doing in terms of conservation efforts? Do you know we have a park that is self-sustaining through use of solar panels? Join us in learning about the interesting habitat of Coney Island that was recently opened by NParks in 2015! In addition to learning about the endangered flora and fauna that are conserved on this island, students will also be able enjoy an intertidal walk* to learn and interact with the marine biodiversity along the shore!
*dependent on tidal timings

Other locations:
Off-shore Islands (Pulau Ubin, Pulau Hantu, St. John's Island - min pax dependent on boat transportation) *additional charges apply for transportation

VIA (Values In Action) Activities.

Incorporation of VIA activities can be done through Beach Clean-ups (cleaning up of pollution and rubbish along Singapore’s shores, and contributing to the data collected for research purposes) or create "Tell-A-Friend" Poster Sharing activity where by students get to design educational posters to inform others about conservation.

ASSEMBLY AND LAB PROGRAMMES (*Also available for Primary to Tertiary)

Young Intertidal Explorers' Skit (with Marine Touch Tank)

This programme is an engaging performance, whereby kids will watch two friends (our facilitators acting) go on a journey to Singapore's very own Changi Beach! On their journey, they will encounter some of the fascinating marine animals (live animals that we will bring to your school) that can be found on the shore! Apart from learning about these marine animals, your students will have a new found appreciation for the marine ecosystem and how to conserve it through the three R's!

Conservation Assembly Talk (with Marine Touch Tank) - Upper Primary (At School's venue)

Learn about marine conservation and Singapore's marine biodiversity through an engaging and interactive assembly talk. Students will get to learn about the marine life in Singapore waters and how they can play a part to conserve them!

Marine Touch Tank (At School's venue)
Along with the conservation assembly tank, we will be able to bring along live marine animals (e.g. Sea stars, sea cucumber, horseshoe crabs, marine snails, baby sharks** depending on availability) for some* of students to interact with! This will enable experiential learning for your students as they get an opportunity to touch and feel these animals.

Squid Dissection - Upper Primary (At School's Lab)

One of the most experiential and engaging ways of learning biology is to be able to dissect and study organisms. With the squid dissection, your students will be able to appreciate and learn characteristics and adaptations of these animals, placing it as one of the most evolved invertebrates in the world. This programme also focuses on the squid's role in the food web, effects of over-fishing on the balance of the food chain, and conservation of the marine ecosystem. This programme will be held at your school with a ratio of 2 students to a squid.

SCIENCE CARNIVAL (*Also available for Secondary)

Exploring Biodiversity

Having a biodiversity week at your school? Allow us to engage your students with the great variety of living things in our world! Your students will have interactions with animals such as chicks, frogs, hydrophonic plants or even invertebrates like sea stars!

With Young Nautilus proudly in collaboration with local farms to bring these animals, your students get to learn about classification and characteristics of all these living things!
